* Fund for Women at the Delaware Community Foundation Awards $15,000 to Catholic Charities

June 25, 2024 — (Wilmington, Delaware) — Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Wilmington was awarded $15,000 from the Fund for Women at the Delaware Community Foundation. The grant will expand the Basic Needs Program to include childcare benefits and supportive case management for mothers re‑entering the workforce. Working mothers can face many challenges, including a delayed return to work due to lack of timely funding for childcare. This immediate financial support will assist with childcare expenses, and case management to access healthcare, social service entitlements, housing, and food. It is significant in enabling women to resume work to provide for their families. The project will decrease the risk of housing instability and strengthen clients’ life skills.

Eligibility is based on participation in Catholic Charities’ Basic Needs program with a preparation to enter the workforce, and includes these criteria:

  • Income at 200% or less of the Federal Poverty Level
  • Families with children from birth through age 12 who attend early childhood and/or after-school educational programs
  • Documented need for childcare services (employment or Purchase of Care case)

“Catholic Charities is extremely honored to be one of 18 non-profits in Delaware to receive a grant award from the Fund for Women at the Delaware Community Foundation. This gift will allow us to continue to address human suffering and restore well-being by providing caring service to families and individuals in need,” stated Samantha Wallace, Catholic Charities’ Interim Executive Director.
